NCCHC Standards: An Essential Resource to Prepare for Professional Certification

This training seminar reviews content of the 2018 Standards for Health Services for jails and prisons and the 2015 Standards for Health Services in Juvenile Facilities. The Standards are the foundation of NCCHC’s accreditation program as well as the CCHP program. This seminar can serve as an overview course for those new to corrections, a preliminary study session for anyone preparing for future certification, or a final review before sitting for the CCHP exam. Tips on preparing for, studying for, and taking the exam will be shared.
The exam has been updated to reference the 2022 Juvenile Standards. Participants should review the 2022 Juvenile Standards for complete preparation. This guide highlights the changes made from the 2015 Standards.

About the presenters
Tracey Titus, RN, CCHP-RN, CCHP-A, is the senior director of policy and accreditation for Centurion, LLC. Ms. Titus has been a registered nurse for 29 years, with 26 spent in correctional health care. Prior to joining Centurion, she served as vice president of accreditation for the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) where her responsibilities included overseeing the accreditation program for nearly 500 facilities nationwide and the oversight and development of the NCCHC surveyor program. She also guided and organized revisions for NCCHC’s Standards for Health Services in jails, prisons and juvenile facilities, Standards for Mental Health Services in Correctional Facilities, and is a current member of the task force for the revision of NCCHC’s Standards for Opioid Treatment Programs in Correctional Facilities. In her role as senior director of policy and accreditation, Ms. Titus oversees the Policy and Accreditation and CQI team, assists in the development and review of Centurion’s correctional health care policies and procedures, and works in collaboration with other clinical operations staff in monitoring performance with on-site service delivery based on both contract compliance indicators as well as national and state accreditation standards.
Jeffrey Alvarez, MD, CCHP-P, CCHP-A, is the chief medical officer for NaphCare. In this role, he oversees all clinical care; serves as the clinical liaison with IT for NaphCare’s electronic health record; and oversees peer review, policy, and procedure development, and centralized quality control and compliance with the company’s proactive care model, which is aligned with NCCHC standards. Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Alvarez serves on the NCCHC board of directors as the liaison of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He serves on the Executive Committee, chaired the 2018 revision of the NCCHC Standards, and is a physician surveyor for the accreditation program. Dr. Alvarez has also worked at a community opioid treatment center providing medication-assisted therapy to those suffering from substance use disorder.
