Meeting The Challenge of Correctional Nursing: Review for the CCHP-RN

Recorded during the 2020 Virtual National Conference on Correctional Health Care

CE Credit Offering Period: October 2020 - December 2027

Reviewed December 2024

For CCHP-RN exams taken before February 25, 2026

While traditional nursing experiences may help in your transition to corrections, not one of them can fully prepare you for the role of a correctional nurse. It is a specialty that is often learned through on-the-job training, until now. Whether you are new to correctional health care or a seasoned professional, this course will provide an overview of nursing responsibilities from intake to release and the days, or even hours, in between. The material covered is also intended to assist candidates seeking the CCHP-RN certification to prepare for the exam.

Learning Objectives

-Identify core concepts and competencies in correctional nursing that every correctional nurse should know

- Explain nursing responsibilities that support compliance with NCCHC standards and help ensure a patient’s three rights in regards to health care

-Apply course concepts to practice through the use of vignette-based exercises
