HIV remains a major public health concern both inside and outside of correctional settings. The presenter will discuss the latest progress on HIV as well as the anticipated challenges moving forward. He also will examine the current national HIV treatment guidelines in the context of corrections and review primary care management of HIV, as well as prevention.


Learning Objectives:

1. Review the latest DHHS guidelines on HIV treatment, including available medications

2. Discuss the role of the primary care clinician in monitoring and treatment of HIV

3. Describe pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV


About the Presenter:

Dr. Neil Fisher is familiar to many of us who attend NCCHC conferences due to talks he has given at prior conferences. He is a proud graduate of Albany Medical College in Albany, New York. Dr. Fisher has been involved in Correctional Healthcare for over 20 years. He is best known for the care of the incarcerated prisoner especially those that are HIV positive and/or Hepatitis C positive. He is Wexford Health Sources’ Corporate Medical Director for Quality Management and Pharmacy. Dr. Fisher is based at Wexford’s Regional Office in Phoenix, Arizona.
