Prevention and Treatment of COVID-19 in Corrections * Free Webinar - Sponsored by Merck

Alysse G. Wurcel, MD, Assistant Professor at Tufts Medical Center and Sue Lane, RN, CCHP-A, Infection Control & Prevention Coordinator at Centurion

COVID-19 has affected corrections in rates greatly exceeding those in the community. A study by NCCHC and researchers from Harvard Kennedy School indicated a rate of 7,737 per 100,000 inmates compared to a rate of 542 per 100,000 individuals throughout the United States. In addition, individuals with serious underlying medical conditions are at greater risk of severe illness from COVID-19. National experts on correctional health care will share their policies, practices, and perspectives and will answer questions on managing COVID-19 with this vulnerable population. While every correctional facility is unique, this discussion will offer research, information, and ideas practitioners can use to ensure public health and safety during this unprecedented challenge.

Educational Objectives

  • Review research about COVID transmission and how that impacts jails and prisons
  • Describe different types of masks and the data to support their use
  • Discuss the role of asymptomatic testing
