Opioid abuse has become epidemic, but education can help you manage your patients’ pain safely. This free webinar will feature a case-based presentation in which two pain management experts will discuss best practices for treating patients in pain, including appropriate monitoring. Topics will include principles of pain management, pharmaceutical and nonpharmaceutical treatments, safe use of opioid medications and available resources.

About the presenters
Dr. Michael Clark is the chair of psychiatry and behavioral health for the Inova Health System. He oversees all aspects of the service line including clinical programs, educational initiatives, research projects and departmental operations. He is also an associate professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is trained as a consultation-liaison psychiatrist with sub-specialization in disorders of the special senses such as chronic pain and vestibular and balance dysfunction. A fellow of the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine, he devotes his research to the care of the psychiatric aspects of somatic symptoms such as chronic pain, including studies on health services delivery, pharmacological treatment of neuropathic pain, substance abuse and the phenomenology of depression in chronic illness.
Ms. Yvonne D’Arcy is a pain management and palliative care nurse practitioner with 20 years of clinical experience. She practiced most recently at Suburban Hospital - Johns Hopkins Medicine in Bethesda, MD. Previously, she was the coordinator of the Acute Pain Service and the supervisor of the Chronic Pain Clinic at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, FL. Ms. D’Arcy received her nursing education at Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI, and Winona State University in Winona, MN.
